Thread: [pgsql-advocacy] Is the Postgres Association part of smile.amazon.com?
Is the "United States Postgresql Association" a member of Amazon's charity donation program through smile.amazon.com?
I ask because I've selected it as my charity of choice (it's actually an option), and while I've generated some bit of money through my purchases, Amazon says nothing has actually been donated.
They indicate that one reason could be that while Amazon knows about the charity, the charity isn't actually registered.
If this is case, y'all might consider working out how to do that via https://org.amazon.com/. I don't know how painless the charity registration process is, but it's pretty painless for an Amazon shopper (like myself) to transparently donate via smile.amazon.com. Maybe y'all have already decided this isn't a thing you want to be involved in?
Anyways, I wanted to ask. Amazon has donated something like $46M to charities since February this year, and it'd be cool if some of that went to Postgres.

Yeah, I think it's 1% of each purchase that can be donated. As a shopper, you *must* go through smile.amazon.com, but that doesn't seem to impact their catalog -- everything I've ever wanted to buy I've found at smile.amazon.com.

Definitely!
Users don't get the tax benefits of course, but it's kinda cool to tell a giant gorilla where to send some of its cash.
(ha! too bad AWS RDS doesn't donate some percentage of its hourly rate back to Postgres)

Sure. So it should mention something like "For everyone in the US, donations to PG US can be made via Amazon Smile". The announcement itself doesn't need to be limited to US people though, as many non-US people work/etc with staff who ARE in the US. There's other non-profits in other places, of course (eg: PostgreSQL Europe, https://www.postgresql.eu/). Perhaps that comes up as an organization for Amazon or Paypal for folks in Europe..? If you think they aren’t on PayPal, let them know you are looking for them. Enrolling is quick and simple. And this link: https://www.paypal.com/givingfund/ That seems to be the sign up page for Charities to get on the PayPal list. Maybe something for PostgreSQL Europe to consider?
