Thread: Cuba needs swag

Cuba needs swag

From

All,

Postgres Cuba would like to have some swag (shirts, flyers, etc.) for
their next event. Our normal way of helping with this would be through
SPI, but as a US entity, I cannot pay for nor ship anything to Cuba
using SPI money (or, for that matter, ship stuff to Cuba from the USA,
period).

Can anyone from another region help out? I'd really like to help
PostgreSQL Cuba do well and have a good event.

Josh, do you know if anyone managed to help with this?... if not, an ex workmate, who happens to be cuban, told me that the way coould be through the embassy of cuba in X country... They have one in Panama, so i will have a look when i go back to panama (at venezuela atm...)

The way is: To have someone (its better if its an organization, or something like that) who can pick the package, the sender would have to explain to the cuban embassy that its a donation to the named organization, and the purpose is to help to spread the use of open source software and so...

From what my friend toldme sounds easier said than done, but is not an impossible thing to do...

So again, if noone has helped with this already, i can give a hand...

Have fun :)

I don't think that's practical from the USA.

Actually, let me be completely clear: I cannot use non-profit money from
the USA (so SPI or PostgreSQL.US) to buy, make or ship swag which is
going to Cuba. Hence my appeal for help; some other country will need
to not just ship the swag, but pay for it.

Just so everyone knows, JB and I worked with our attorneys via SPI to
try and resolve the issue with Cuba. It is not an option for an U.S.
corporation to help Cuba. It will have to be a NP from another country.

hello ...

we had a spanish translator from cuba some time ago.
if i remember correctly we sent cash through a swiss bank (which works fine - any US organization will block payments).
switzerland is usually a good start here.

the problem is just: if i remember correctly the guy on the other side of the transaction in cuba will not get USD but
canonly draw pesos from some sort of special card.
if you want i can look up the company we used back then. but, whatever it is - don't expect it to be simple.
if you want i can also send cash from austria.

    many thanks,

        hans
