Thread: transition SRA PostgreSQL CE -> LPI-JP OSS-DB lost English version
Hi, some of you may know the SRA PostgreSQL CE certification: http://www.sraoss.co.jp/postgresql-ce/ In recent news this certification was discontinued to the benefit of the new OSS-DB delivered through LPI-Japan: http://www.oss-db.jp/ While the SRA one (Silver at least) was available through Pearson-VUE in English the new OSS-DB is not (yet). This is creating some problem here, because for some type of courses I'm involved with as a trainer, I'm in need of a readily available, affordable certification exam for PostgreSQL in English (*). The SRA Silver CE exactly matched what I needed. So the question is: what can I do? Does anybody know whether OSS-DB will be available in English some time soon? Does anybody know about another exam (available through Pearson-VUE or Prometric) that tests PostgreSQL? I'm aware of http://www.postgresqlcertification.org/ but that seems to be sort of abandoned. Bye, Chris. (*) or Italian, for that matter, but that's even more unlikely...

Ok, like this one: http://enterprisedb.com/products-services-training/certification/postgresql-associate-certification I'm going to look into it. Thanks. > > Also, if the certification is "OSS-DB", is it actually PostgreSQL- > only? > I think so: http://www.oss-db.jp/measures/sample.shtml These appear to be the same questions as were in the SRA PostgreSQL CE samples. (Im using Chrome's translate here). Bye, Chris.

It's moving very slowly, but the last burst of public activity was in August, and a second round of discussion around it happened in person the last US conference in March. I've talked a good percentage of the people doing training in the US, and everyone seems to agree a community-driven certification program like this was driving toward is worthwhile--and the statistics collected by that project point in the direction toward what it would have to look like. At this point, though, the main hurdle seems to be how you go about creating the "question bank" needed to run a certification. The usual sort of transparency open-source projects develop via is quite incompatible with collaborating on that sort of thing. I keep meaning to find another certification program for a FLOSS program to see if there's any useful ideas to borrow from them. I've toyed with becoming CompTIA: Linux+ or a Red Hat Certified Engineer just to explore their process. > (*) or Italian, for that matter, but that's even more unlikely... If there is a completed community-driven PostgreSQL certification exam finished in English, I guarantee we'll offer it in Italian and French as well. Hi, (follow-up on a post from 2011). Good news! Today I learned that LPI-Japan has made available an English version of the exam about a month ago: http://www.oss-db.jp/outline/eng_index.shtml Bye, Chris. Based on the sample questions, there's some issues. For example, I can't personally select a "right" answer for this question: http://www.oss-db.jp/measures/eng_sample_silver_knowledge.shtml I suspect that part of the problem is wording changes introduced by translation. Are you working with anyone at LPI on auditing the questions? -- Josh Berkus PostgreSQL Experts Inc. http://pgexperts.com

No, I'm not involved with this. Somebody from LPI-Japan mailed me because he found my old mail from 2011 and mailed me and not the list... Appearantly he's trying to get in touch with the english speaking comunity because he mailed me again. I'm going to send him a mail with you in cc now... Bye, Chris.

What's the issue here? I can forward your feedback to guys who are in charge of this certification (and sample questions). I often give tech lecture for engineers who are interested in studying PostgreSQL and taking the OSS-DB Gold Exam/Cert (advanced one). http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oss-db.jp%2Fnews%2Fevent%2F2013%2F01%2Fevent_20130119_01.shtml&act=url If you have any question and/or feedback, I'm happy to forward it to improve this exam. BTW, I'd like to share with you that this exam is based on PostgreSQL 9.0 now, and I don't know when it will be updated. Regards, -- NAGAYASU Satoshi <satoshi.nagayasu@gmail.com>

One more thing I need to let you know. The lecturer for the OSS-DB Silver Exam seminar is Mr.Shigeru Hanada, one of the most popular Japanese developers in the PostgreSQL community. (all of you might know his name. :) http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oss-db.jp%2Fnews%2Fevent%2F2013%2F04%2Fevent_20130421_01.shtml&act=url So, I guess he is also able to forward your feedback to LPI-Japan.
