Thread: PostgreSQL.org : A new website design offer
Hi everyone, A few of us have been working on a new look and feel for the main www.postgresql.org page. What we've got so far is viewable at: http://postgresql.oper.metu.edu.tr Since it is Turkish, please check what the English layout, which is at : http://postgresql.social-housing.org/v2 http://postgresql.social-housing.org/v2/content.php In Turkish version, in addition to the English one, we have "Downloads" and "Users' Area" parts at the top and bottom links. Since we have a language file, translation into any language is so easy. You'll notice that it's mostly a "Portal", as its purpose is as a gateway to the various subsites in the PostgreSQL group. We'd really like to get some feedback about it, as we feel we're getting near to a finalised design. Specifically : - Does it look alright in the browsers you use? - Do you feel it has a decent layout, with a proper usage of space? Not too crowded, not too much empty space, etc. - Does it easily guide you to where you want to go? - Is the overall look professional, in your opinion? - Does it lack anything important? and - Any other suggestions which you feel are appropriate. :) Regards and best wishes, -- Devrim GUNDUZ devrim@oper.metu.edu.tr devrim.gunduz@linux.org.tr Web : http://devrim.oper.metu.edu.tr -------------------------------------

I also don't like the collection of drop-downs. While I kindof like the idea of the radio group to select a country site I think that the users not having to do anything to select the country would be much better. Can't the URL's just be relative to the index page so that whenever a user clicks on them they just go to the same locale? Also, in the United States at least the general design has the primary navigation links on the left side of the page, the center to be the major article headers with summaries and the right side to be minor article headers. The links on the right side of the page should really be on the left side. rjsjr > -----Original Message----- > From: pgsql-general-owner@postgresql.org > [mailto:pgsql-general-owner@postgresql.org]On Behalf Of Darren Ferguson > Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 4:12 PM > To: Devrim GUNDUZ > Cc: PostgreSQL Mailing Lists-General > Subject: Re: [GENERAL] PostgreSQL.org : A new website design offer > > > On Tue, 18 Jun 2002, Devrim GUNDUZ wrote: > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > A few of us have been working on a new look and feel for the main > > www.postgresql.org page. You have put in a lot of work and it looks very good. I would like to see it be more of an advocacy site than what it has been, a developers site. I thinks that there should be more links to tutorials, case studies, Howtos, and getting started style articles. The News is great. I was thinking more along the lines of java.sun.com. The front page being for people that are new then a "Developers Connection" for people that are already using PostgresSql. -----Original Message----- From: pgsql-general-owner@postgresql.org [mailto:pgsql-general-owner@postgresql.org]On Behalf Of Devrim GUNDUZ Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 3:41 PM To: PostgreSQL Mailing Lists-General Subject: [GENERAL] PostgreSQL.org : A new website design offer Hi everyone, A few of us have been working on a new look and feel for the main www.postgresql.org page.
