Thread: Mail<->Usenet gateway back on ...
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 'k, I just made the following change to the Usenet -> Mail portion of the gateway which I believe (if I'm reading the man page properly) will result in no messages cross-posted from other hierarchies getting through: pgsql.advocacy,@alt.*,@comp.* Basically, what the above says (again, if I'm reading the man page properly) is that all posts to pgsql.advocacy (this is for the pgsql-advocacy, all others are configured the same), *except* those that have a cross-post to any newsgroup in the alt.* or comp.* hierarchies, will be forwarded ... Before anyone thinks to ask, if I had done: pgsql.advocacy,@* then it would have prevented pgsql.advocacy,pgsql.general from working ... I'm figuring that most cross-post traffic will be through the major hierarchies, but I can add exceptions as / when they get noticed ... If anyone notices anything like what occured this morning, please forward me just the Subject of the message, so that I can look in the newsgroup itself, and add to the exception list as required ... - ---- Marc G. Uh ... why reject cross-posts to comp.*? At least comp.databases.* should definitely be allowed. Also, the majority of the spam we saw yesterday seemed to be cross-posted to rec.* --- personally I'd try rejecting all the top-level hierarchies *except* comp. regards, tom lane

Yeah, I have ~800 moderation messages this morning, and some of them, cross-posted to a large number of PostgreSQL lists are from a scrappy@hub.org :-) Most others look like legitimate messages that have been harvested from someplace. Oh, and they all seem to have news.hub.org in the delivery path :-( Does the gateway have some sort of bowel problem? /D

Yeah, I did once I realised what was going on. Unfortunately it still took me quite some time to sift through all the garbage to make sure I didn't miss any real messages in the queue. /D
