Thread: PostgreSQL 8.0.1-2 WinXP Services

PostgreSQL 8.0.1-2 WinXP Services

Can anybody please tell me all the WinXP services that need to be run when someone is trying to install the Database?

The reason I am asking this is because I can not install the database. I tried everything and nothing works. So as a
lasttry I am thinking of fiddling with the services. Maybe the installer needs a service that is not running at the
moment.

Could you give more information as to why you cannot install - Do you
receive an error message? Does the installer fail to launch at all?

Kind Regards,

Neil Saunders.

From

you will find explicit instructions to install on
WinXP Home (should work on WinXP Pro, too) here...

http://www.geocities.com/operationsengineer1/

download the appropriate pdf file, follow the install
instructions.

if this doesn't work, post a detailed explanation of
the problem... where you had the problem and what
resulted...

given that, someone will have a chance at actually
helping you.

best of luck.

Thank you all for replying but nothing suggested can solve my problem.

I should tell that I tried to install the DB to the default folders and
the following folders:
1) PostgreSQL files in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL
2) Databases files in D:\DBASES

Neither worked.

I am giving you below the error messages I get during installation.
Some of you asked for this information. So here it is. Maybe you can
make some sense of it if you are experienced enough. It is all Greek
to me:

*********************************************************
During the "Activating procedural languages" installation
part, I get:

"Failed to connect to the database. Procedural
languages files are installed, but are not activated in
any databases."

When I press OK it continues and I get:

"server closed the connection unexpectedly
This probably means the server terminated
abnormally before or while processing the request."

When I press OK again, it continues and I get:

"Failed to connect to the 'template1' database. Contrib
files are installed, but are not activated in any databases."

Pressing OK for a final time gives me this:

"could not send startup packet: Connection reset by
peer (0x00002746/10054)"

why are you installing 8.0.1-2 instead of 8.1?

did you follow the steps outlined in the downloadable
pdf found here...

http://www.geocities.com/operationsengineer1/

did you have a prior version of pgsql installed or is
this a fresh install?
