Thread: OSCon and SouthEast LinuxFest
What are we doing for OSCon and the SouthEast LinuxFest conferences? Last year our PGDay at OSCon was lightly attended, and we didn't have a booth at the conference due to delays in booth approval. Are we going to do either of these this year? Now that talks have been accepted, it is time for us to decide: http://www.oscon.com/oscon2012 I will not be attending OSCon this year due to lack of travel funding, but I will be attending the SouthEast LinuxFest in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is a new event for me: http://www.southeastlinuxfest.org/ There will also be an OpenSQL Camp as part of the conference: https://groups.google.com/group/opensqlcamp/browse_thread/thread/46c44b5888e35050 -- Bruce Momjian <bruce@momjian.us> http://momjian.us EnterpriseDB http://enterprisedb.com + It's impossible for everything to be true. +
Won't be attending OSCON, but if I were, I'd be up for booth duty there (as it felt very strange *not* to have one at OSCON). I think one of the main problems with PGDay is the competing with the leadership conference; I'd almost rather not have PGDay and have a bigger BOF. Re: SELF: I should be able to help with booth detail there (at least on Saturday, if nothing else). I've been to one SELF before (having somewhat infamously brought a tuba for booth bling); it's a fairly nice conference (and seems to be growing in popularity every year). I look forward to seeing you there! :) ---Michael Brewer mbrewer@gmail.com

I attended the Leadership conference once and was not impressed, but of course that conference is not targeted at me. I attend few generic open source conferences, but found that the conference I attended in Montreal was much more interesting than OSCON, I think because it was more practical and less focused on cutting-edge stuff: http://confoo.ca/en My point was just that we should decide now what we want to do at OSCon, rather than waiting until it is too late. > Re: SELF: I should be able to help with booth detail there (at least > on Saturday, if nothing else). I think they are announcing speakers in the next week or two, and I submitted some presentations. -- Bruce Momjian <bruce@momjian.us> http://momjian.us EnterpriseDB http://enterprisedb.com + It's impossible for everything to be true. +

Gabrielle and I can handle doing something for the BOF. It would coincide with the regular pdxpug meeting. As for the booth, if I can get a partner to help (Gabrielle is not available), then I think we can handle that. Regards, Mark

I'll be there, I'll be speaking, and I'd like to have 4-5 committedvolunteers before we commit to a booth. --Josh Berkus
I'll see what I can do. (I did run a PG booth solo at SELF before, but it's significantly larger now [plus, we want to look our best].) ---Michael Brewer mbrewer@gmail.com

I've submitted the requests to OSCON for the booth, and the BOF for Wednesday night. We're supposed to hear about the booth by May 17th. Will keep everyone posted. Regards, Mark Wong
