Do we want 8.4 shirts at the booth?

All,

Those of you who were at pgCon saw the 8.4 shirt I auctioned off. I'm
ready to make a version of that design available on Zazzle for
sale+donation to PG fund. I'd like to have all the booth volunteers
wearing 8.4 shirts, but that requires spending some community money ...
about $200.

What do people think of the idea?

Fine idea. Would be nice for the women's shirts to:
* put the graphic on the back of the shirt (and reduce the size of it)
* have a small slonik on the front with 'postgresql' under it like the
Italian shirts.
* Have the shirt color be *exactly* the same as the men's color, or black.

Could this be done? They will help the women wearing these shirts look
professional while still wearing a tshirt.

I will have about an hour on Monday morning to assist with details if
you want to get on the phone before noon.

Bling is good too - if it is possible to get metallic ink... :)

Ooo, that'd be nice. I've had good experiences with creating shirts
on Zazzle; I especially like their embroidered polos. (A PostgreSQL
polo shirt would be quite nice.)

OK. I think only you and Elein (and maybe not Elein, she's tentative)
will be at OSCON. But we'll have the women's shirts online of course.

Still, are you sure about having the "periodic table" graphic on the
back? An alternative would be to shrink the whole periodic table
graphic and make it a pocket image.

Sure, just see question above.

I'll be at at client's site. :-(

How was Nigeria, btw?

Too expensive, I think. And hard to wash.

We may be SOL on this. I've checked out both Zazzle and CafePress, and
neither carries *any* of the same colors for women's shirts as for men's.

Wow, that is odd. My only idea if we want to use those vendors is to do
something different with the women's shirts, so it doesn't look the same
as the men's shirts just in a different color. Selena seemed to like
the reflective shirt text (I think) so maybe do that on the women's
shirts in a color to match.

Then, I'd prefer black for the women's shirts.

Elein -- any opinion?

I liked the v-necked Italian shirts. They look good, but white is a
tough color IMO.

I just had a look at the shirt offerings for women, and there is a
v-necked version that looks nice, and there's a petite shirt and
another tshirt in 'navy blue'. All have 'navy blue' actually.. and
there's a men's shirt in 'navy blue'. I can't tell on my screen
whether they're actually the same color, but they look close enough.

Here's what I looked at:
Women - Ladies Sheer V-Neck (Fitted) - (Alternative Apparel)
Women - Ladies Petite T-Shirt (Bella)
Men - Basic American Apparel T-Shirt

Ah, ok.  The original design was a light grey shirt with blue graphics;
I'll have to change it around. I can't justify metallic because it's
too costly (we'd be talking $35 each for shirts).

Let's see if I can actually get this done today.

From

Selena,

I was able to get a group order on Navy shirts, changing the design from
royal blue to light grey/white.

However, in order to get a group order discount (about $100) the men's
and women's shirts need to have the exact same design. Also, for some
reason the fitted women's shirts aren't available in any colors other
than pink, baby blue and white, so you'll have to live with the
non-fitted variety.

Overall, it seems like American vendors think women either don't buy
shirts, or want only pink babydoll shirts. WTF?

Anyway, now I need to harass CafePress about how to get expedited
shipping on group orders. It only takes them 3 days to make the shirts,
but 10 days to ship them!

If the group order thing is impossible, I'll send you the designs and
ask you to take over getting the shirts tommorrow, since I'll be doing a
training.

All,

We were able to get matching Men's and Women's shirts by going with a
different vendor. To make them different from other PostgreSQL shirts,
these are "ringer" shirts ... off-white with royal collar and sleeves.
"Team 8.4".
