Thread: OSCON
Hello, Although still a couple of months away we are sending out notice of OSCON early. I will be organizing the booth again this year and I need to know who is going to show. OSCON is along the same time as the Anniversary so I know that many of you will not be able to attend the show. However it is pertinent that we continue to have a strong presence at all major shows, so if you haven't gone to OSCON before and you are not going to the anniversary summit please contact me. I also just got confirmation from Bernier. The main point of my post is to make sure we have known community members there if possible. If we have Elein, Robert, Chris Browne, Myself and Joshb taht is plenty of community :) Joshua D. We are sure to also have people there, including Bruce. > -----Original Message----- > From: pgsql-advocacy-owner@postgresql.org [mailto:pgsql-advocacy- > owner@postgresql.org] On Behalf Of Josh Berkus > Sent: Saturday, April 08, 2006 5:48 PM > To: pgsql-advocacy@postgresql.org > Cc: Joshua D. Andy, > We are sure to also have people there, including Bruce. Oh, good, we have a 5-minute "State of PostgreSQL" lightning talk. I'll schedule Bruce for that. Unless he objects quickly. ;-) -- Josh Berkus Aglio Database Solutions San Francisco
I'm not sure I understand your question, Josh. Bruce will be there as both a member of the PostgreSQL community and as a member of EnterpriseDB, just as you are part of both PostgreSQL and CMD. If you're asking whether we are sponsoring at OSCON, though, we are not planning to do so. andy > -----Original Message----- > From: Joshua D. I could prepare report about new tsearch2 features if it's worth (poster, somebody report it). We have inverted index for CVS HEAD with support for any arrays and, now, for tsvector. We hope to have something to show on the Anniversary meeting. btw, it's pretty expensive for me and Teodor to go to the meeting. Are there any sponsors ? If you have a Russian wife, I think you understand that my presentation will need to be very effective, :-) I think this amount will get one of you all the way to Toronto, but only over the North Atlantic on the way back to Moscow. I am unwilling to research Aeroflot pricing as they want my Passport # just to check fares, which crosses my line for privacy. So, $500 is on the table. Additional sponsors will be needed. Thanks, Mike

Thanks guys btw, I and Teodor are going to France (Toulouse) and will stay 2 days in Paris (22-24 April). We could give a short talk about tsearch2 if PostgreSQL.fr could arrange our living and took us around. Oleg, Mike, > >>> We hope to have something > >>> to show on the Anniversary meeting. btw, it's pretty expensive for me > >>> and Teodor to go to the meeting. Are there any sponsors ? Per previous conversations on -hackers, there will be funding for speaker travel. Please send me (off-list) an estimate of the amount you will need to make it to Toronto. However, it *is* likely that a lot of the conference funds will not be recieved until a month before the conference. So the majority of speakers will be reimbursed at the conference rather than sending payments in advance. If you have been to international conferences before, you will know that this is common practice. Therefore if you need funding in advance of the conference, rather than reimbursement, please make that very clear. > >> I believe that I can persuade my Russian wife that a $500 contribution > >> would be a good thing. If you have a Russian wife, I think you > >> understand that my presentation will need to be very effective, :-) Michael, this is really appreciated. It might be better to go through the conference fund though. Also, we likely have enough funds (at least by the start of the conference) for most speakers. Maybe you could donated it to Oleg & Teodor for development on Tsearch? -- Josh Berkus Aglio Database Solutions San Francisco
Hi Oleg ! Oleg Bartunov wrote: > btw, I and Teodor are going to France (Toulouse) and will stay > 2 days in Paris (22-24 April). We could give a short talk about tsearch2 > if PostgreSQL.fr could arrange our living and took us around. We certainly can help you in many ways. What kind of help do you want? There are some difficulties for us to organize a talk in Paris. But I think that we can do it: - first, you don't let us much time to organize an event, but we can work hard to accomplish it; - seems 22-23 are Saturday and Sunday. We'd prefer a talk on Monday 24, since it is easier to have more people, including business people coming on a Monday. We'll do our very best to invite computing newspapers journalists too; - we traditionally organize such talks in Universities. But as you may know, our universities are on strike for about 2 months. The situation may calm down a bit from today, given the fact our president, Jacques Chirac, has to talk to medias for a big decision at about 12am. What I see is that we can organize the talk at Mandriva's Head Office in Paris (http://wwwnew.mandriva.com/). Since as per march 31, my company and mandriva are partners for PostgreSQL corporate support. Anne-Laure (in CC) will tell us whether it is possible to organize something or not. Maybe Jean-Christophe Arnu (he's CCed in equipe@postgresqlfr.org alias) can help you too for your stay at Toulouse, since he lives in this city, and he's one of the 4 that created PostgreSQLFr. Im looking forward to hear from you soon, Thanks for your incentive Oleg, hope we will meet soon, -- Jean-Paul Argudo www.PostgreSQLFr.org
