Thread: Linux Seminar Sheffield UK - 2nd March 2005
Hi Don't know if this is the right place to send this but it seems likely that it is. In March we will hold our annual Linux seminar in Sheffield. This is aimed at local business teams with a view to getting local people and businesses to understand something about open source software and what they can or can't do with it. People come from all over the country to join in. Very popular event. People who are presenting at this year's seminar are .. Hans Kind, presented "Locking down your Apache Web Server with mod_security" at Apachecon 2004. Ruediger Berlich will present the business aspects of Grid Computing.. http://www.ep1.rub.de/~ruediger/start.htm Jacek Artymiak will present what to do with Soekris hardware and how to install OpenBSD into it.. http://www.devguide.net/books/openbsdfw-02-ed/index.html There are some others but this gives a flavour of what the seminar is about. A PHP presentation is in the works just now. Plan is to do a Lamp presentation and some network security. http://www.onlamp.com/ What we would like to find is someone who can do a Postgresql presentation for us. There was a Postgres stand at the UK Linux Expo in London in October 2004. We'll consider flying in someone from outside of the UK but a UK based presenter would be preferred. Please send e-mail to myself if you would like to have a go at this. We can provide you with expenses and a hotel and possibly even some nice food in a good restaurant. Kind regards -- Richard www.sheflug.co.uk
Yes, this is the right place. Most of the guys at the UK Linux Expo are on this list and should be available. I will be in Denmark March 4 so if you need me I could probably do it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Richard Ibbotson wrote: > Hi > > Don't know if this is the right place to send this but it seems > likely that it is. > > In March we will hold our annual Linux seminar in Sheffield. ?This is > aimed at local business teams with a view to getting local people and > businesses to understand something about open source software and > what they can or can't do with it. ?People come from all over the > country to join in. ?Very popular event. > > People who are presenting at this year's seminar are .. That might be worth considering. We've already got Hans coming over from Holland and so getting the budget from the sponsors for a flight from Denmark shouldn't be too hard. I'll pencil you in for it. The sponsors are... http://www.iee.org/OnComms/Branches/UK/England/NorthE/SYorks/about.cfm http://www.digitalsy.org.uk/html/SIGs/floss/index.html and the proposed venue which we think has Wi-Fi built in for the guests - such as yourself - for e-mail and web pages is... http://www.holidayinn-sheffield.co.uk/ if the venue goes up the chute before the 2nd of March - which it shouldn't - we can easily find somewhere similar :) I'll get in touch with the sponsors now and tell them that you are interested. Kind regards -- Richard www.sheflug.co.uk

Seems if there is someone local who can do it that would be best. I only suggested myself in case you couldn't find someone. Also, I would be flying from Philadelphia to Denmark and back to Philadelphia so it is more like adding the UK in that itinerary than flying round-trip from Denmark. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- > I'll pencil you in for it. Okay :) I'll consider anyone who wants to have a go at this one. > Also, I would be flying from Philadelphia to Denmark and back to > Philadelphia so it is more like adding the UK in that itinerary > than flying round-trip from Denmark. Yes. We can probably fit this in if you have the time. Waiting for a reaction from the sponsors. Flights and a hotels and restaurants aren't too much of a problem to sort out. -- Richard
