Thread: Looking for more "big name" places that use PostgreSQL
Hi everyone, We're looking to get an initial "PostgreSQL Advocacy and Marketing" site up an running in the next day or so. Whilst we know of a reasonable number of large places running PostgreSQL (as shown on the http://techdocs.postgresql.org/techdocs/supportcontracts.php page), we're still looking for further examples. Specifically, we are looking for places that are happy to discuss it, either a) not publicly, or b) happy to let the world know about it. Probably about 1/3 to 1/4 of the large organisations that we know are using PostgreSQL for important work aren't yet able to announce it publicly. Please don't let this stop you from letting us know privately, as we are interested in the implementation details and will respect your confidentiality. So, if you're using PostgreSQL and haven't directly let us know, please do so now if you can. :-) Regards and best wishes, Justin Clift -- "My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. I don't know how big our name is, but IHS, or Information Handling Services has been in the information industry for over 40 years, starting with paper indexes to catalogs, and moving into specs and standards, parametric data, and dozens of other catagories. While our big financial and online databases are all mainframe / idms / cics or Solaris / Oracle, we are using postgresql more and more for internal projects and are quite happy with it. So far it is slowly pushing out MSSQL server and the other smaller backend databases, mainly because it is stable, fast, and free, the three mythical qualities you can only get two of most of the time. I'm not in marketing, and I don't speak for IHS as a company, I'm just one of the trained web monkeys / postgresql dbas working in the back shop here, so it's probably best to just say we use it for internal projects and such on the web. Cool. Thanks heaps Scott. :) Regards and best wishes, Justin Clift > > Scott Marlowe -- "My grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who work and those who take the credit. Hi Justin, Just Sports USA, my employer is the largest professional sports licensed merchandise retailer in the US and we use PostgreSQL as the foundation of our technology solution that runs everything from our purchasing system to our in-store point-of-sale systems. Contact me if you would like a more detailed description of our use, how it's worked flawlessly for us for over 3 years, or anything else related. Gavin M. Yes, and I am going to start working on advocacy this week. If you are interested in sharing your experience of PostgreSQL with others, please subscribe to the advocacy mailing list. Some items I want to focus on are: quotations company users beef up developers list, add companies success stories BSD license funding non-technical papers phone/email/visit potential PostgreSQL sites --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Justin Clift wrote: > Hi everyone, > > We're looking to get an initial "PostgreSQL Advocacy and Marketing" site > up an running in the next day or so. > > Whilst we know of a reasonable number of large places running PostgreSQL > (as shown on the > http://techdocs.postgresql.org/techdocs/supportcontracts.php page), > we're still looking for further examples. > > Specifically, we are looking for places that are happy to discuss it, > either a) not publicly, or b) happy to let the world know about it. > > Probably about 1/3 to 1/4 of the large organisations that we know are > using PostgreSQL for important work aren't yet able to announce it > publicly.
