I don't know how big our name is, but IHS, or Information Handling
Services has been in the information industry for over 40 years, starting
with paper indexes to catalogs, and moving into specs and standards,
parametric data, and dozens of other catagories.
While our big financial and online databases are all mainframe / idms /
cics or Solaris / Oracle, we are using postgresql more and more for
internal projects and are quite happy with it. So far it is slowly
pushing out MSSQL server and the other smaller backend databases, mainly
because it is stable, fast, and free, the three mythical qualities you can
only get two of most of the time.
I'm not in marketing, and I don't speak for IHS as a company, I'm just one
of the trained web monkeys / postgresql dbas working in the back shop
here, so it's probably best to just say we use it for internal projects
and such on the web.
