Thread: Spam filtering for mailing lists
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Could we implement some sort of spam filtering on the mail server for gborg? The dbdpg-general list is being flooded with spam, and even a simple SpamAssassin filter with a relatively high number would drop the number by quite a bit. I'm having to clear 100+ messages out of the mailman queue every few days now. - -- Greg Sabino Mullane greg@turnstep.com PGP Key: 0x14964AC8 200601270750 http://biglumber.com/x/web?pk=2529DF6AB8F79407E94445B4BC9B906714964AC8 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iD8DBQFD2hcsvJuQZxSWSsgRAjDzAKCg5BJdOatAC9sH6+fkW3/Ba/uGqgCeODJ3 pamBQWb23Qrz1qalt9vkMlU= =ilgF -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Just leave them there and let them expire. -- Peter Eisentraut http://developer.postgresql.org/~petere/
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 > What's the problem? Just leave them there and let them expire. (1) As far as I know, they don't "expire". (2) There are legitimate messages that need to be approved occasionally. If there weren't, we could simply drop all messages from non-subscribers. - -- Greg Sabino Mullane greg@turnstep.com PGP Key: 0x14964AC8 200601270848 http://biglumber.com/x/web?pk=2529DF6AB8F79407E94445B4BC9B906714964AC8 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iD8DBQFD2iS5vJuQZxSWSsgRAmuWAJ463YX4FvUBvaZUH5MiDji6tDZ6LQCgyMVw EuU0JRP67eI6nKlZdvc39VI= =Wc5M -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Ummm, one thing to note, we don't have spamassassin set to auto-kill anything, you have to setup some sort of filter on your end for that ... with Majordomo2, we have it as an access_rule, but I don't know how to do it with mailman ... ---- Marc G. Speaking of subscribing, how does one subscribe to avoid the moderation delay? I receive the mailings but all of my postings are delayed. Yes, I noticed that while spamassasin marks email as spam, it still forwards it to the recipient. I had to add a rule in my spamassasin filter to delete those marked as spam. -- Bruce Momjian | http://candle.pha.pa.us pgman@candle.pha.pa.us | (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup. | Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073

I've got it working within Mailman, and it seems to be working well: the queue this morning has 2 spams and 1 real message, which is a vast improvement as the old ratio was more like 70:1. The dbdpg-commits list still seems stuck, however. I'm ccing the admin for that list as well. - -- Greg Sabino Mullane greg@turnstep.com PGP Key: 0x14964AC8 200602011046 http://biglumber.com/x/web?pk=2529DF6AB8F79407E94445B4BC9B906714964AC8 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iD8DBQFD4NgfvJuQZxSWSsgRAjrgAJoDFtpvlTVgJhEJZFwgoJgig3tXgACg/Aai LEfNWPDs0voUizPnGYyfILU= =7eDn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
