Thread: Google ads gripe
Hi guys, I'm sure it's paying for some of the infrastructure, I'm slightly concerned that virtually every page I visit on Gborg or Archives is trying to sell me pgsqlmanager or some other commercial PostgreSQL product, whilst all the ads for pgAdmin and other FOSS tools and products are now gone. Whilst I'm sure pgsqlmanager is all very nice, it does leave Open Source tools somewhat out in the dark and will might well leave people thinking that the DB server is free, but then we sting them for any tools. Or is this just me being unfairly biased? Regards, Dave

As a prift making business,Hub.org can budget for and buy ads with Google if they like. It's not really an option for us. Regards, Dave

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not against commercial companies advertising their products and services on the websites - Iagree, I think it's a good thing. I just don't think the community projects should get zero exposure, which is effectivelywhats happening now. We need to strike a balance imho so that users can see easily that they have both commercialand FOSS options, and not have to figure out what pgFoundry or GBorg are just to find an alternative. What about adding the old project ads into the remaining ads.postgresql.org set? Regards. Dave

No, ours was in the right hand set; the PostgreSQL projects cycle which is now gone. Well, I say that - you did say you weregoing to change it, but I currently see the same commercial one on both sides of www. They certainly seem to be gonefrom GBorg and archives though. If you haven't still got it, let me know and I'll send a copy. Thanks, Dave

Ahh, that should be OK then. I'll keep an eye out for it. How is that working from now on then - equal rotation for mirror providers and related projects, and send the commercialsto Google? I will work on fixing this over the next 24hrs ... it was supposed to cycle through both :( Actually, just checked the code, and the pgadmin banner has been cycling through ... at least from this end ... Have a few commericial ones in the cycle for the physical banners, most its *mostly* projects/mirrors ... I think there are 6 out of ~30 that are 'paid' ... ---- Marc G. Should reduce the load a bit... /D
