GSoC 2013 begins

Hi students and mentors:

As you may have seen yesterday, 3 projects were finalised and
published for this year's Google Summer of code programme.

Students, we're very much looking forward to working alongside you to
help make your projects successful and hopefully the beginning of your
long-term involvement in the community. If you haven't already done
so, please subscribe to the pgsql-students mailing list:
http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-students/

You should use this mailing list for discussing matters relating to GSoC.

Also note that there are two admins for managing PostgreSQL's
participation in GSoC, myself and Josh Berkus.

  Thom Brown - thom@linux.com
  Josh Berkus - josh@agliodbs.com

Please contact us at any time if you are having issues with your mentor
or student, GSoC, Google, or your schedule. It's recommended that you
contact both of us in case one of us is unavailable.

The next three weeks are known as the "community bonding period" where
each student should discuss their project with their mentor. Use
whichever medium works best for you (phone, Skype, IRC, IM) but please
start this as soon as possible so that you are prepared in advance to
begin your project. Then on 17th June it will be time to begin coding
your project.

Thanks, and welcome to Google Summer of Code 2013 and the PostgreSQL community.

Thom

Hi everyone.

There are only 2 weeks left before projects are to begin. We'd like
to check in with everyone to make sure everyone has made time to talk
to their mentor/student and want to hear from everyone individually
(except Heikki and Alvaro who don't need to do anything at this
stage). If there are any issues getting in contact, please let us
know ASAP.

It's very important that students and mentors discuss their projects
together and talk about the plan for the project. Not doing this
risks throwing away lots of valuable time and can put projects in
jeopardy, so please ensure you do this so that you are fully prepared
when it's time to start working on your respective projects.

Thanks
