Thread: License and pgfoundry
The license should be BSD to enter the official PostgreSQL tree, right? GPL is not accepted even as a contrib module. Btw, if there aren't any objections i am planning to open a pgfoundry project. If i understand correctly, it also provides cvs services like sourceforge.

That's because of the "infectious" clause of the GPL. > Btw, if there aren't any objections i am planning to > open a pgfoundry project. > If i understand correctly, it also provides cvs services like > sourceforge. Personally I would recommend keeping development questions/emails pointed toward hackers rather than start your own mailing list, but otherwise the cvs/tasks/news/tracker features should all be good. Oh also commit messages will be sent to pgsql-committers so you may pick up some extra eyeballs that way. -- Robert Treat Build A Brighter Lamp :: Linux Apache {middleware} PostgreSQL
Are there guidelines to add a proper BSD license to the project? only In README, also in C soruces? Adding personal credits. How this thing works? I saw that on the OSI site, the template of the license is a bit different from the licenses i see being used in the contrib and postgresql. http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php here is the template from the site. what should i use? Currently, you'll just want the following in the README: Copyright (c) 2006 Tzahi Fadida All rights reserved. Redistribution and use in source and binary forms, with or without modification, are permitted provided that the following conditions are met: * Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer. * Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution. * Neither the name of the <ORGANIZATION> nor the names of its contributors may be used to endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific prior written permission. In the source code, just put something like the following in the header: Copyright (c) 2006 Tzahi Fadida. All Rights Reserved. -- Jonah H.
