windows+pgsql

I have installed a pgsql (8.1) on my computer (windows xp + apache 2) and there is a problem while trying to connect ta a database server. I use pgadmin3 and when I hit "connect" my computer "thiks" for a 3-5minutes and then a windows style popup with text like this:

 "Server closed the connection unexpectedly
This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request".

Firewall off, apache listens on port 5432, all configured to connect with localhost.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

Why would apache be listening on 5432? Or why would pgAdmin
know how to talk apache?

Cheers,

Looking at your server log is probably a good place to start, but other
than that, I'm not sure what the most common cause of this error is.

Apache listens on port 5432?

Following these instructions should get the job done.
You can review them in order to find any deviation you
may have taken and correct it. there is no shame in
starting over from scratch.

if you knew how many times i started from scratch
while installin gpgsql over cygwin, you'd be stunned.

i'm still stunned 2 years later.
