Thread: pgHoster.com woes and looking for a new host
Hi there, Does anyone else here host their sites with pgHoster.com? More to the point, does anyone know what's happened to them? We switched our site to them a couple of months ago and while everything was fine for the first month, during the last few weeks it all went straight to hell. I'll spare you the story, but the current state of things is that our site's been down for a week, support has been nonexistent, e-mails to the company bounce, and as of today *their* site is down. And lucky us, we prepaid for a year. :-( This is the third web host we've been through. At the first, their versions of PHP and PostgreSQL were way out of date and getting tech support of any kind was like pulling teeth. The second claimed they supported PostreSQL while courting the gallery and then once we'd signed up said oops, sorry, we actually only support MySQL. And now the third appears to have disappeared. Obviously we need a new host, but at this point, given our past experiences, I'm a little gunshy. Does anyone know of a host that supports PostgreSQL *and* is actually stable, reliable, and has good, or at least existent, tech support? And is affordable enough for a non-profit art gallery with a relatively small site and smaller budget to handle? Thanks, Lynna -- Resource Centre Database Coordinator Gallery 44: www.gallery44.org Database Project: www.gallery44db.org

When I first started using them they were great, excellent customer support. But then one day they disappeared! no response from any emails to any address on their site or their parent company I shall be changing to http://www.hub.org/ When I get the chance. I've heard its good, and one of their main chaps is very well known around here I believe! HTH Adam > Hi there, > > Does anyone else here host their sites with pgHoster.com? Another company you can contact is: http://www.A2WebHosting.com We have had GREAT success with them. Very responsive, helpful, and they pay close attention to detail. We have had to do some "out of the ordinary" types of things and they have always been willing to make adjustments for us, and make them quickly. We also used pgHoster, but don't for the very same reasons you have outlined here. I am hosting 3 client sites with pgHoster. They were great for a while, but recently there has been nothing but trouble. Even prior to recent events it has always been difficult to get any kind of response from their support. I actually resorted to demand a response via their own public user forums - that got my problem fixed but no reply to my questions. I did a google search for "pghoster", and not suprisingly the first page was mostly others with pghoster problems. Then I noticed Tripod Support handle the after hours support for pghoster. Their live chat support guy tells me pghoster were cracked into, and should be back up within 24 hrs. For anyone still interested in other postgresql hosters I can recommend commandprompt.com and hub.org. We used commandprompt about 12 months ago and they were great, the only reason we went to pghoster was the cost savings - you get what you pay for hey? We have recently set up a new site with hub.org and were planning on moving all our client sites to them. That will definitely be the case as soon as we can get access to pghoster again. Tripod Support reassured me that our sites and data will be intact when services resume. Interstingly though, Roj Niyogi is the founder of pghoster and the president of Tripod Support????? Here's and interview touting his support beliefs: http://www.webhostgear.com/94.html regards, bsides2
