Thread: Platform testing (last call?)
Things have firmed up nicely for the 7.2 release. We currently have several NetBSD platforms which have not reported success for 7.2, maybe only because they have a relatively small user base (and aging processors) nowadays. If anyone still has a m68k, VAX or arm running NetBSD, let us know! Oh, and a question about Linux/PlayStation2: if it is an x86 processor, even without test and set support, should we list it separately? Or is it enough like other PCs that it is too fine a distinction to make? - Thomas The problem platforms with comments and questions are: NetBSD/arm32 Patrick Welche Any luck finding time to do the test? NetBSD/m68k Bill Studenmund Any luck finding another test platform? NetBSD/VAX Tom I. Helbekkmo Any VAXen out there nowadays? SunOS Tatsuo Ishii Anyone writing a memcpy for it? Tatsuo will be retiring his machine soon. And those reported as successful: AIX Andreas Zeugswetter, Tatsuo, Tom BeOS Cyril Velter BSD/OS Bruce FreeBSD Chris Kings-Lynne HPUX Tom, Joseph Conway IRIX Luis Amigo Linux/Alpha Tom Linux/arm Mark Knox Linux/MIPS Hisao Shibuya Linux/PlayStation2 Permaine Cheung Linux/PPC Tom Linux/sparc Doug McNaught Linux/s390 Permaine Cheung Linux/x86 Thomas (and many others ;) MacOS-X Gavin Sherry NetBSD/Alpha Thomas Thai NetBSD/PPC Bill Studenmund NetBSD/sparc Matthew Green NetBSD/x86 Bill Studenmund OpenBSD/sparc Brandon Palmer OpenBSD/x86 Brandon Palmer OpenUnix Larry Rosenman QNX 4 Bernd Tegge QNX 6 Igor Kovalenko Solaris/sparc Andrew Sullivan Solaris/x86 Martin Renters Tru64 Alessio Bragadini, Bernd Tegge Windows/Cygwin Dave Page, Jason Tishler Windows/native (clients only) Dave Page
I have a hp 9000/433s that I can fire up and try if need be. (1.5.1 of NetBSD). LER * Thomas Lockhart <lockhart@fourpalms.org> [011213 10:15]: > Things have firmed up nicely for the 7.2 release. If it is on the "problem list" (or not mentioned at all), then any testing would be great! - Thomas > > The problem platforms with comments and questions are: > > > > NetBSD/arm32 Patrick Welche > > Any luck finding time to do the test? > > NetBSD/m68k Bill Studenmund > > Any luck finding another test platform? > > NetBSD/VAX Tom I. I know there were problems with the compiler changes that Apple put in but I don't recall if there's an easy fix. It's some kind of RISC with a lot of special 3d and sound hardware, but I forget which. -Doug -- Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees. --T. J. Jackson, 1863

Pretty sure that someone already reported success on 10.1 (10.1.1?). So, "it should work" ;) - Thomas

Thanks for the offer. I have a PB that I just updated to 10.1 so I'm going to try to get it running there, probably tonight. -Doug -- Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees. --T. J. Nitpick: actually from what I've read that term refers to the super-nifty graphics chipset, not to the CPU itself, which is fairly vanilla. Interesting that the PG compile doesn't try to use MIPS spinlocks on the PS2... -Doug -- Let us cross over the river, and rest under the shade of the trees. --T. J. Jackson, 1863
works for me. doug if you'd like an account on a 10.1 machine i can arrange that. i've got both the client and the server flavors available. there was some bizarre two-level-namespace problem, but it seems to work okay now. oh, if youre going to do testing tonight, one thing i didnt do.. apple has their new 'developer tools' out, which *will* include a different gcc/make/other stuff. so you might try installing that too. alex -----Original Message----- From: Doug McNaught [mailto:doug@wireboard.com] Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2001 1:27 PM To: Alex Avriette Cc: lockhart@fourpalms.org; Hackers List; Bill Studenmund; prlw1@cam.ac.uk; tih@kpnQwest.no; Tatsuo Ishii; Permaine Cheung Subject: Re: [HACKERS] Platform testing (last call?) Actually, Neil is correct. I had the great experience of working on the tool chain for PlayStation2 a few years back. And, yes, it was a fun project. The Emotion Engine is the MIPS core, the vector units and the arbiter. For more information on the Emotion Engine, check out the ieee.org website (they have a few good Emotion Engine tech documents/papers). > Interesting that the PG compile doesn't try to use MIPS spinlocks on > the PS2... The PlayStation2 MIPS Core does not have such instructions. Cheers, Patrick -- Patrick Macdonald Red Hat Database Development
