Stuart,
Thanks, yet I am not succeeding. I am trying on Win98, I might try on
Win2000.
Briefly:
1. cygwin from http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin DOES download and install
both "postgres.exe" and "psql.exe" version 7.1.3-1 (in BOTH /usr/bin AND
/bin directories!!!???).
A symbolic link to run "postgres.exe" via postmaster also exists.
The PATH first goes to /usr/bin and so it runs both from there.
2. cigipc-1.10.1.tar.bz2 is "bunzip2"-ed and "untar"-red in "/" (root)
directory and it installs "ipc-daemon.exe" in "/usr/local/bin".
3. So, the procedure to instal PostgreSQL from its original form
"postgresql-7.1.3.tar.gz" is skipped.
4. Run "ipc-daemon" OK (NOTE you have to run this BEFORE you run "initdb")
5. mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data (MUST in order to run "initdb").
6. "initdb" completes properly
7. Postmaster -i & runs properly
8. "psql -l" or "psql template1" fails with:
pg_flush: send() failed: The descriptor is a file, not a socket
pg_recvbuf: recv() failed: The descriptor is a file, not a socket
Maybe, just maybe, I do not have something at the right place.
It is becoming annoying.
Steven.
