Success of PG Day France 2013

Guys,

Just a few words to let you know that the PG Day France 2013 happened
last week in Nantes.

With 115 registered attendees, we saw a 50% increase in registration
from last year. These numbers are extremely good, especially if you
think that on the very same week there was a big train workers strike
AND a big air traffic controllers strike (Bienvenue en France!...).
Without those 2 major strikes we would have gone even higher.

Anyway this success shows that PostgreSQL is making impressive progress
in France. Approx. half of the attendees worked for national agencies,
while the rest were from private companies. Some big French companies
are switching from Oracle to PostgreSQL. I hope I'll be allowed to give
more details in the near future.

That's really great. Congratulations to all the people of Dalibo and
the French community for this success!

PostgreSQLFR claimed and keep claiming french-speaking, not french centric
community, here we had registered people also from Switzerland and Belgium.

Anyway, yes it was a great success and I also thanks all volunteers who make
it real.

Hi Cédric,

I Think that everyone in the PostgreSQLFr association is very careful
regarding that specific point and we spend a lot of time saying that
we are a **french speaking** PostgreSQL community. Personnaly I did it
again on that list just a month ago

http://www.postgresql.org/message-id/5191F8B4.7030302@dalibo.info

However the PG Day France (as written in its name) is a french-centric
event. The conference is focused on the french user base. AFAIK there
were some people from Switzerland, but that's less than 3% of the
attendees.

The goal of the PostgreSQLFr association is to help and support the
people who want to organise PostgreSQL events in a French speaking
country.

Currently we have serious contacts in Tunisia, Belgium and Switzerland
to organize some PostgreSQL events there in the near future. For each
country, there are specific hurdles to overcome and I'm not sure we
will find success everywhere but we're working on it and you're
welcome if you want to help !

Congratulations! What's "strike" in French?

Wow, is the Tunisia user group back in operation?

We say "grève" :)

Funny thing is that SNCF and DGAC, the two companies that where on
strike are both PostgreSQL users. There was even 2 employees of SNCF who
skipped the strike to attend the conference :)

I'm in contact with Karim Benabdallah (@karim2k) who is active in
Tunisia at least since 2005. He contacted me last month but I was busy
with the PG Day France at the time. Now that the french conference is
over, I intend get in touch with him and see how PostgreSQLFr can help
them. From the first messages we've exchanged, my understadning is that
TnPUG is back and they're serious about organizing a PG Day in Tunis.

Of course I will keep you updated when things move forward.

Hello,

We have to thank all the volunteers, outside any commercial entity or outside
PostgreSQLFr who made this event a reality.

We also have to thank all of the 6 companies that sponsored that event.

Best regards,
