pg_live, impending release

From

Guys,

Due to a number of requests; rather than wait for the official release, I'm
going to roll out the latest version of pg_live using 8.3rc so it can be used
at the various conferences that are currently scheduled all over the world.

I should have it ready for mid February.

By then we will need a non rc version. We need an rc in a week so I can
burn a run for the upcoming shows.

That's going to be tough. I have an article due next Monday. Thereafter things
get even busier. Still, there's a slight chance that I can do the work next
week but it's going to depend on a number of other issues.

I'll keep you posted.

Is there a chance that we can help you here?

Kind regards

I wish you could but unfortunately, no :-(

You would need a copy of my development evironment and to learn how it works.
The development environment is quite large, about 6GB (I keep copies of the
image for redundancy and recovery purposes) .

I certaintly appreciate the offer. One of these days I've got to sit down with
a few of you guys and show you how I do this. It's not hard, just detailed.

Maybe I'll ask all of you... Is this something worthy of a workshop at one of
the conferences, such as pgcon? This isn't an uber pg topic and there's lots
of cool stuff that's going to be suggested for the various conferences.
Still, there might be a few of you that would like to be able to roll your
own version of pg_live without depending on 'one' (me) person.

Comments?

I'd think a more efficient use of your time would be scribbling down a
how-to (which you'd need to do anyway to present it at a conference) and
getting someone to follow it and let you know what they had trouble doing.
Go through that a bit and then you'll have instructions anybody who knows
a bit about building live CDs and using PostgreSQL can follow, not just
people who made it to a talk.
