Thread: Wikipedia help requested, especially non-English speakers
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've been working a lot on the Wikipedia PostgreSQL page, but I'd like to see other people jump in as well - the article still needs a lot of cleaning up, and I know this community has some good writers. Anyone can edit the page, found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostgreSQL It's better if you actually create an account. Not only will it make talking about the page easier, you can add the page (and others) to your watchlist to monitor vandalism. If you speak a non-English language, please take a look at the specific Wikipedia sites for your language - almost all of them contain older translated versions of the English PG page and need updating. Of course, if you find some good content on them, add it back the English page so we can propogate it everywhere. Other sites can be found by plugging in the language code as the first part of the domain. For example, the Germany and Spanish Wikipedia pages on PG are at: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostgreSQL http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/PostgreSQL Please take a moment to check out the pages for any language you know (and there are a lot more languages in Wikipedia than the 2 above). Translated text below: Postgres runs on most UNIX-based systems as well as clones including HP-UX, Solaris, BSD-variants, MAC OS X and Linux. From the version 8.0 onwards there has been native Microsoft Windows support as well. In addition I made the comparison of PostgreSQL to the Apache and *BSD projects because Linux has no core team as such - the mentioned projects resemble PSQL development model more closely IMHO. There is some pretty neutral stuff comparing PostgreSQL and MySQL I left from the earlier verion in second chapter. Thanks for Greg and earlier writers (english & finnish) for the harder part of the work :) -Reko

They are however very strict with what license they allow. Wikipedia commons only allow images licensed as Public Domain or GPL. -- /Dennis Björklund

That's goofy... the wikipedia "commons" wont accept creative commons licenses? Good to know. I created a new version without the name, uploaded it, and put it on the page. Can we possibly put all the PG images on one page (the "propoganda" one no longer has the main image, for example) and clearly state somewhere that they are all (or which ones are) public domain? I'll be happy to add things to the commons once I have a URL to point people to as proof of public domain status. - -- Greg Sabino Mullane greg@turnstep.com PGP Key: 0x14964AC8 200511131311 http://biglumber.com/x/web?pk=2529DF6AB8F79407E94445B4BC9B906714964AC8 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iD8DBQFDd4IOvJuQZxSWSsgRAg3wAKCpZQiq3upPPLE/gdr+dE5BPOjk4gCgy2pM NC6/QBqbwVJW777SdnH0VB4= =OcM6 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Hmm, on a swedish doc page they list Public Domain and GPL, but on the english information they allow a lot more licenses. Seems I was misguided. Here is the real info: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Licensing Sorry for the confusion. -- /Dennis Björklund

And, some Wikipedians uses un-logged-in edits as a high indicator that the work is vandalism, and get prepared to revert. It's odd... being logged in gives you *more* anonymity, not less. :) But the vandals don't understand that... yet. -- Randal L.
