I've gotten myself into the habit of always writing out a
SELECT ... FROM ... WHERE ...;
first, and then command-line editing it to
DELETE FROM ... WHERE ...;
Putting it in a transaction (BEGIN, COMMIT or ROLLBACK) is probably the
best practice.
