Yes. Thank you. To escape a variable and thwart SQL injection:
cat <<SQL | psql --variable name="Robert'); DROP TABLE Students; --" school
INSERT INTO Students(name) VALUES(:'name')
SQL
The single quotes around name will escape the psql variable as an SQL string.
