test=> SELECT extract(epoch from(now() - (now() - interval '1.345577 sec')));
 date_part
-----------
  1.345577

test=> SELECT extract(epoch from(now() - (now() - interval '1.345577 sec')))::int;
 date_part
-----------
         1
