Hi All, I have the following problem: (RH7.1, PostgreSQL 7.4.1) After stopping postresql service the /data/pgsql/tgr/data/postmaster.pid is not deleted. Starting Postgresql (after deleting the pid file manually): ------------------------------------------------------- [root@tgrweb /root]# /etc/init.d/postgresql start Checking postgresql installation: no database files found. Initializing database... [ OK ] Starting postgresql service: [ OK ] ------------------------------------------------------- Trying to start psql console: ------------------------------------------------------- [tgruser@tgrweb tgruser]$ psql tgr psql: FATAL: the database system is starting up ------------------------------------------------------- When I try to 'ls -l' the $PGDATA/base/19536 directory then the console freezes and does nothing. Can it be a filesystem error? Or what else? What can I do with it? How can I check it? The system is on a RAID1 SCSI array. Fsck says that it is mounted and not recomended running fsck on a mounted volume. Some log entries regarding SCSI (is any of them critical?): ------------------------------------------------------- [root@tgrweb log]# pwd /var/log [root@tgrweb log]# grep -r "SCSI" * dmesg:SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 dmesg:sym53c896-0: Downloading SCSI SCRIPTS. dmesg:sym53c896-1: Downloading SCSI SCRIPTS. dmesg: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 dmesg: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 dmesg: Type: Processor ANSI SCSI revision: 02 dmesg:sym53c896-0-<0,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. dmesg:sym53c896-0-<0,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) dmesg:SCSI device sda: 71132960 512-byte hdwr sectors (36420 MB) dmesg:sym53c896-0-<1,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. dmesg:sym53c896-0-<1,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) dmesg:SCSI device sdb: 71132960 512-byte hdwr sectors (36420 MB) messages:Jul 12 01:00:24 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0: SCSI parity error detected: SCR1=1 DBC=11000200 SBCL=ae messages:Jul 12 01:00:24 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. messages:Jul 12 01:00:24 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) messages:Jul 12 01:00:24 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0: SCSI parity error detected: SCR1=3 DBC=11000000 SBCL=29 messages:Jul 12 01:00:24 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. messages:Jul 12 01:00:25 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) messages:Jul 12 01:00:25 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0: SCSI parity error detected: SCR1=3 DBC=11000600 SBCL=ae messages:Jul 12 01:00:26 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<1,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. messages:Jul 12 01:00:27 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<1,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00 messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0: Downloading SCSI SCRIPTS. messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-1: Downloading SCSI SCRIPTS. messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: Type: Processor ANSI SCSI revision: 02 messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<0,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:20 Tgrweb kernel: SCSI device sda: 71132960 512-byte hdwr sectors (36420 MB) messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:21 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<1,*>: WIDE SCSI (16 bit) enabled. messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:21 Tgrweb kernel: sym53c896-0-<1,*>: FAST-40 WIDE SCSI 80.0 MB/s (25 ns, offset 31) messages.2:Jul 9 10:21:21 Tgrweb kernel: SCSI device sdb: 71132960 512-byte hdwr sectors (36420 MB) ------------------------------------------------------------------ Many thanks for any reply. -- Csaba Együd --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
