Announcing Cloudberry Database Enters the Apache Incubator

We are excited to announce the Cloudberry Database project has entered the Apache Incubator and is rebranded to Apache Cloudberry™ (Incubating), continuing the legacy of open-source Greenplum Database with advanced PostgreSQL-based analytics capabilities.

Cloudberry, created by the original developers of Greenplum Database, is an advanced open-source Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database. It evolves from the open-source version of the Pivotal Greenplum Database® but features a newer PostgreSQL kernel and more advanced enterprise capabilities. Cloudberry can serve as a data warehouse and can also be used for large-scale analytics and AI/ML workloads, positioning itself as the primary open-source successor to open-source Greenplum.

This milestone addresses the challenges faced by the Greenplum Database following its transition to a closed-source model. By adopting Apache’s open governance model, Cloudberry aims to foster an inclusive developer community and drive innovation under the guidance of the Apache Way.

We invite developers, data scientists, and database enthusiasts to contribute and shape its future. Join us in building the next generation of data analytics solutions.
