Hi
If I can help in any ways, please let me know.
I don't mind trying things, like I said, the bug happens about every 2
days.
This is a bug, but from your bug report isn't possible to detect any information.
Can you enable core dump generating, and can you send a core dump?
Regards
Pavel
Cheers!
Thank you for taking the time to have a look.
I'm not sure how to enable core dump with the docker image.
I've seen some documentation where the db is started with pg_ctl anc a "c" flag. I couldn't find anything on enabling it on the docker image.
in my data folder, I have a huge core file (8 GB). Would it be possible that it is the core dump file generated after the segfault?

I couldn't find anything on enabling it on the docker image.in my data folder, I have a huge core file (8 GB). Would it be possible that it is the core dump file generated after the segfault?you can check a create time
or if it is core dump, than you can separate backtrace
and this should be important information

I'm not really sure how to read that binary file.
I have uploaded to an s3 bucket and made it public.
Anyone should be able to access that file
it's 2GB
If you have a link to a documentation of how I can read that file and get the stacktrace, I would be glad to give it a read.

It's strange so Postgres crashes in LWLockAttemptLock
Maybe there is problem in https://github.com/postgres/postgres/commit/bb16aba50c9492490a0b57e600a932798f45cd4f
Do you use serializable level of transaction isolations?

days. This is a bug, but from your bug report isn't possible to detect any information. Can you enable core dump generating, and can you send a core dump?RegardsPavel
Cheers!
Thanks for the issue, that is spot on.
So it looks like I won't be able to get a debug image for docker.
I have one question though. The core dump came from postgres 13.0 built for alpine. Would I be able to debug it, if I got postgres 13.0 on my macOS with the debug symbols and tried to debug on my local machine? Those binaries are different but come from the same version of postgres, would that work?

days. This is a bug, but from your bug report isn't possible to detect any information. Can you enable core dump generating, and can you send a core dump?RegardsPavel

Thanks for the issue, that is spot on.So it looks like I won't be able to get a debug image for docker.I have one question though. The core dump came from postgres 13.0 built for alpine. Would I be able to debug it, if I got postgres 13.0 on my macOS with the debug symbols and tried to debug on my local machine? Those binaries are different but come from the same version of postgres, would that work?
You cannot use binaries for docker for macOS. But if your application fails inside the image, then probably it fails on macOS too.

I don't mind trying things, like I said, the bug happens about every 2
days. This is a bug, but from your bug report isn't possible to detect any information. Can you enable core dump generating, and can you send a core dump?RegardsPavel
Cheers!
The problem is that I don't know how to make it fails.
I know that on my production server it fails randomly every two days.
Would it help more if I tried to get a backtrace with `bt full` rather than just `bt` like I did with the previous one?
I'm not sure how to move this forwad further.

But if your application fails inside the image, then probably it fails on macOS too.RegardsPavelOn Sunday, Oct 11, 2020 at 4:13 PM, Pavel Stehule <pavel.stehule@gmail.com> wrote:ne 11. 10. 2020 v 8:54 odesílatel Raphael Megzari <raphael@megzari.com> napsal:I'm not sure how to install debug symbols for Postgres, if you point me to the right resource, I can read it.it is a separate package - it has no relation to Postgres configuration.maybe this thread is related https://github.com/docker-library/postgres/issues/666PavelHere is my full configuration file. It's as if it has a bad address for the lock (core data structures corrupted, somehow we got a crazy buffer number from a corrupted buffer mapping table?), or the mapping just went away (systemd removed it? docker/lxc/whatever removed it?), but then I suppose there'd be lots of different failure modes, so it's probably not that. Yeah that's pretty weird. It's as if it has a bad address for the
lock (core data structures corrupted, somehow we got a crazy buffer
number from a corrupted buffer mapping table?), or the mapping just
went away (systemd removed it? docker/lxc/whatever removed it?), but
then I suppose there'd be lots of different failure modes, so it's
probably not that. Hmm. In the case we see, it's a parallel query,
crashing in the leader process under ExecGather(). Is it always like
that? Is it possible to see any variables in the core file? For
example, looking in the frame for ReadBuffer_common:
frame 2
print (unsigned int) blockNum
print &BufferDescriptors
print bufHdr
print (int) NBuffers

Hmm, I don't see anything in the stack trace or config file that
implies that. It was released in 12.

Hi,
I am slowly moving to running postgres outside of docker. It might still take me some time, but I'm in the process of setting this up at the moment.
I have two questions
- How can I make sure to have a postgres that includes debugging symbols?
- How can I verify after that my version includes debugging symbols?
Thank you in advance

will add anything.

(1) install the associated debug symbols package, or (2) build from source and use --enable-debug configure option. > - How can I verify after that my version includes debugging symbols? You could attach to a running backend process with gdb and see whether "bt full" gives you more than minimal output. regards, tom lane
