Thread: domain name change of e-mail address

domain name change of e-mail address

Hi,

I wanna ask 3 questions and hope this is the right place to ask.

(1) My e-mails to hackers are held by moderator even after my registration of my new e-mail address.
My company changed the domain name and after that
my e-mails to hackers are held by moderator for some reason.

So, I registered my new e-mail address in the system,
using both https://www.postgresql.org/account/profile/ and
https://lists.postgresql.org/manage/.
Those show me the current e-mail address I have now.
Still, that bad situation doesn't change.
Mines are delivered to the list recipients after it has been approved by a moderator.

I suppose this must be annoying to the administrators of postgres hackers.
Really sorry. How should I fix this one ?

(2)
Whenever employees of the company I belong to send a message to hackers,
our names are not displayed like other developers in the mailing thread.

Other developer names are displayed like "given name" plus "family name".
But in our cases, just e-mail addresses are shown to others.

Not only in the mailing list but also in the commitfest archive,
our names aren't displayed correctly now. How can I solve this problem ?
I think this is also related to the first question.
It's because this happen at the same time.

(3) By the way, could I change username without recreating a new account ?
This question isn't related to above two.
I wanna change my current username. Can I do it ?

Best,
    Takamichi Osumi

When I look in the logs, I don't see any emails from osumi.takamichi@fujitsu.com being stopped for moderation, except for one on the 14th.

However, I also don't see osumi.takamichi@fujitsu.com being subscribed to the hackers list. Which exactly is your old and new address?

This is because of how your mail system is set up. The outgoing email being sent does not have a name on it, just the email address, so that's what the PostgreSQL systems will use at every level. In the headers of this email you sent for example, it has:

With no further details.

So that is something you will need to bring up with your mail system admionistrators.

Unfortunately no, usernames cannot be changed.

[>]  This is weird.  I got an e-mail on the 17th as well like below.

Your message to pgsql-hackers with subject

"the/title/of/the/email"

has been held for moderation.

It will be delivered to the list recipients as soon as it has been approved by a moderator.

My new one is osumi.takamichi@fujitsu.com

and old one is osumi.takamichi@jp.fujitsu.com. When I look at my profile page, I can see pgsql-hackers@lists.postgresql.org and its “Mail delivery” is “Enabled”.

Allowing this kind of e-mails must be annoying for the moderator.

So, I wanna fix this problem.

Hi!

Apologies for the delay -- I am now back from my vacation.

I can see that osumi.takamichi@fujitsu.com is subscribed to pgsql-www (only), and osumi.takamichi@jp.fujitsu.com is subscribed to pgsql-hackers (only).

This should *normally* not cause moderation to happen, since any user subscribed to -www should be allowed to post to -hackers.

And I can see for example that your post to hackers done on July 22nd (two days after you sent that email) did get posted without moderation. So perhaps something got changed in between?

So I think what happened is that once you subscribed your new address to pgsql-www, things started working.

If you want email delivered to your new address as well, you should change your subscription. But this only affects email delivered to you, not email being sent by you. (The same is true of the Mail Delivery flag -- it only affects delivery *to* you, not *from* you).

Sorry for my delay.

Since I registered my e-mail address to pgsql-www,

I’ve sent 2 e-mails to pgsql-hackers and

each of those were posted in the mailbox of mine around 1 minutes after I sent those.

This is somehow slow compared to posting an e-mail here.

It’s because immediately after I send an e-mail to postgresql-www,

I can confirm that my e-mail is posted in my mailbox of -www.

I felt this is a bit weird.

So, the situation is “almost-solved” ?

It means, my e-mails aren’t stopped by the moderator any more

although it slightly takes time to be shared in the mail list of hackers ?

Best,

              Takamichi Osumi

The actual delivery time can definitely be a bit different on different emails. But as far as I can tell everything looks correct now, so let's consider it solved :)
