Hi,

I've CC'd this to the web team in case anyone else has an opinion,
however I would ask why we need to add a special link for users of one
specific platform? Why can't those users click the 'Download' link, or
the 'Downloads' option on the top menu like everyone else? Without
wishing to sound disrespectful to any of our users or would-be users, if
they can't manage that, how are they going to use a complex DBMS?

FWIW, there are already additional links to the win32 binary - not only
is it in the normal place under /ftp/binary/8.0.x/win32, but there is
also a win32 link on the top-level of the ftp area which takes them
straight to the current installer.

Regards, Dave.

The current links for the "latest version" point you to source builds which
are likely to do win32 users zero bit of good and are most likely the first
path thier going to try to use to get the download. I think we should change
those links to say

Latest Releases
8.0.1 <source> <win32>
7.4.7 <source>
7.3.9 <source>

with links pointing directly to the proper locations. Given that that win32
has made up about 1/2 our downloads, I have no problems giving them a little
extra love on the main page.... but if folks really want to discuss it, we
ought to take a straw poll on -advocacy

Which brings me up to another issue... can we get some definitive statement
from -core that they want the 7.3.9 release up their? They should be setting
the tone for our supported versions, not us.

Don't forget the RPMs, please...

I'm not forgetting them, but purposefully ignoring them, since rpms
cover a lot of ground (multiple distros, multiple types of rpms) whereas
win32 and source are pretty straightforward. I also figure rpm users
have some more clue as to being able to find their own downloads... we
can debate it if you'd like, but one thing you'll have to point out is
just where you'd like the rpm link to go to.
