Cleaning up databases ...

From

We're doing some work over the next few weeks to consolidate our databases
onto one server, in preparation for the new server to be send down ...
right now, all databases are 'keyed' to the server itself, so that moving
around to a new machine is a major nightmare ... part of the clean up is
to move the databases into mini-servers so that a) we can run mulitple
versions all on the standard port and b) we can easily move databases to
more powerful servers in the future ...

We have a 7.2 (OpenACS users, mostly), 7.3 (those afraid to upgrade) and
7.4 virtual server setup for this, all of which are on our Dual-Xeon
server ... I have the following databases created on pgsql74.hub.org:

host 186_gborg 186_gborg 200.46.204.161 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_gborg 186_gborg 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_portal 186_pgsql 200.46.204.2 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_portal 186_pgsql 200.46.204.142 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_portal 186_pgsql 200.46.204.3 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_portal 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_portal 186_pgsql 200.46.204.71 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_oosurvey 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_oosurvey 186_pgsql 200.46.204.208 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_pgadmin 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_techdocs 186_pgsql 200.46.204.71 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_techdocs 186_pgsql 200.46.204.208 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_techdocs 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_users 186_pgsql 200.46.204.71 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_users 186_pgsql 200.46.204.208 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_users 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209255.255.255.255 trust

I didn't create the following two yet, as I believe one is no longer in
use, maybe both?

host 186_docs 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust
host 186_idocs 186_pgsql 200.46.204.209 255.255.255.255 trust

There is no panic to move the databases, but when you have a minute, can
you work at migrating these?

Thanks ...

These servers arent' Dells, I hope? My clients have been seeing some
alarming problems with Dell Xeon servers under high CPU load.

Nope, the servers down there right now are Intel ... and the new server we
aer getting ready to pick up is an ASUS 1U box with 4 SCSI drives in it,
and dual-Xeon ...

I stop'd believing in Tier-1 hardware years ago ... I've had more problems
with them then with ASUS stuff ... Intel I've been quite happy with also,
especially once I figured out that the hard drive issues we had towards
the start of the year was a U320/Seagate Firmware issue :(
