Thread: psqlODBC LGPL Licence
I notice that the ODBC driver has "Insight Distribution Systems" listed as the company name in various places. Can someone confirm that this can be changed to PGDG without breaking the licence or anything? Regards, Dave
Yes, I think it can. They gave it to us a while ago but I don't remember the details. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Page wrote: > I notice that the ODBC driver has "Insight Distribution Systems" listed > as the company name in various places. As long as you are describing the authorship, both should be listed, as is done in notice.txt. -- Peter Eisentraut http://developer.postgresql.org/~petere/

Yeah, I'm not suggesting we remove them from the licence/credits etc, but rather the version resource for the Windows DLL.If you look at the list of drivers in the ODBC driver manager, it's that name you see as the supplier of the driver. It's been that long since they've been involved that I think it would be better to see PGDG there as the primary distributor. Perhaps I can be of some assistance on this matter. All of the contributions made by Insight were made under my direction. At the time (about the turn of the century) I was a full-timer at Insight overseeing a pilot project which needed the ODBC driver to be more functional. Byron Nikolaidis actually performed the work as an employee of Insight. For some time after leaving Insight he made contributions of his own. Currently, I'm doing some contract work for Insight. So if there is any thing I can do to alleviate you concerns, let me know. Hi David, Thanks for the email it's good to know some of you guys are still around! > Byron Nikolaidis actually performed the work as an employee > of Insight. > For some time after leaving Insight he made contributions of his own. Yup, Byron's contributions were very valuable to the project - he committed many bugfxes for the first versions of pgAdmin, and other apps written by myself and many other people. > Currently, I'm doing some contract work for Insight. So if > there is any thing I can do to alleviate you concerns, let me know. I think it's mainly a legal thing - I don't want Insight to lose any credit for their work, just put our name in the version resource for the Win32 DLL as we're now the primary developers/distributors. My own thoughts are that this is not a problem as I wouldn't be changing any of the licencing as such. If this can be confirmed by someone at Insight, that would be the best answer! Regards, Dave.

In this case it's almost wrong not to change it, since we're putting potential blame on parties that have no part in distributing this driver. -- Peter Eisentraut http://developer.postgresql.org/~petere/
