I'm with Bruce on this (sorry Hiroshi :-)):
1) Surely if anyone is still using 6.3 or 6.2 they will probably not be
wanting to keep their ODBC driver cutting edge whilst using such an old
backend.
2) Are all the other interfaces in src/interfaces backwards compatible with
6.2/6.3?
3) If anyone is using the older protocols with later backends, they are
presumably doing so because of problems with the 6.4+ protocol. If that is
the case, surely these problems are better corrected than worked around.
