Assuming you still have TRUST authentication setup on the local server, open
a psql session as the postgres user (you won't be asked for the password
under TRUST authentication) to the database and execute the command:

ALTER USER Postgres WITH PASSWORD '<newpassword>';

Cheers,
-p

Inside that file, you will have something like:

# TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD
  local   all             all                             trust   #Localhost

Alternatively, just try it! If it doesn't ask for a password, you have TRUST
setup, if it does ask you, then you don't.

Cheers,
-p
