I don't know.
I installed PG8 on a Debian/Sarge without python.

Please run 'dpkg-reconfigure locales'.


Under Debian/Stable the current PG8 ist available as

pegasus:~# apt-cache policy postgresql-8.0
postgresql-8.0:
  Installed: 8.0.3-2
  Candidate: 8.0.3-2
  Version Table:
