Thread: pgAdmin v6.5.1 Release
I have just released pgAdmin v6.5.1 at: http://www.pgadmin.freeserve.co.uk/ pgAdmin is a PostgreSQL administration/management tool for Windows 95/98/NT. New features/bug fixes include: 1) Modified the Create Function dialogue so It no longer assumes that only functions written in SQL don't have an object library (e.g. plpgsql). 2) Added an SQL Pane to display SQL queries as they are built and executed. 3) Modified the error handling (again!) to display the function in which any error occured. Also of possible interest to Win32 developers is a beta version of an ADO based data control with a programming and user interface. It is a very flexible control designed to allow the construction of database applications very rapidly. It has been tested with Access MDB files and PostgreSQL. VSAdoData is available for download at: http://www.vale-it.demon.co.uk/freeocx Regards, Dave. -- Dave Page, Network & Systems Manager, The Vale Housing Association Ltd. http://www.vale-housing.co.uk (Work) http://www.pgadmin.freeserve.co.uk/ (Home of pgAdmin) Beer can be a permanent solution - but only if you have enough of it!

I just finished installing this beast, and, after a couple of caveats, have things running smoothly -- this is a great program, IMHO. 1.) You must have DCOM95 or DCOM98 installed, depending upon whether you are using Win95 or Win98; 2.) You must install the MDAC 2.0 Redistributable Typical Install; 3.) You must have the latest PostODBC installed; 4.) This setup program updates some system files -- you will have to run setup once, then reboot, then run setup AGAIN (this is a Win95 problem, not a pgAdmin problem, IMO); 5.) You must set the PostODBC options properly -- go into 32-bit ODBC setup from Control Panel, select the appropriate datasource, select the Datasource button, uncheck Read-Only, Check both boxes under OID. Otherwise, you will get lots of errors. This is a great program -- particularly if you don't have Access. And, frankly, the available GUI programs under Linux are not quite as polished -- no offense to Constantin, as pgaccess is a great little tool, but it's not quite as polished. All of the above installs add up to around 15MB of download, so give yourself plenty of time. Lamar Owen WGCR Internet Radio
Hi Dave... After successfully installing this on an NT machine at my office, I'm working with a client on getting it installed on his Win98 machine, and the results so far have been most disapointing :( We downloaded the MDAC2.0 stuff required, and went to setup...it tells me that "Some system files are out of date..." and when we press okay, it creates 10 .tmp files in c:\windows\temp, with the 10th file being 0k in size, and an error message being generated to the effect "Cannot read source file. Cannot install"... It is always that 10th file that is 0bytes... What are we missing? :( On Wed, 25 Aug 1999, Dave Page wrote: > I have just released pgAdmin v6.5.1 at: > > http://www.pgadmin.freeserve.co.uk/ > > pgAdmin is a PostgreSQL administration/management tool for Windows 95/98/NT. > > New features/bug fixes include: > > 1) Modified the Create Function dialogue so It no longer assumes that only > functions written in SQL don't have an object library (e.g. plpgsql). > 2) Added an SQL Pane to display SQL queries as they are built and executed. > 3) Modified the error handling (again!) to display the function in which any > error occured. > > > Also of possible interest to Win32 developers is a beta version of an ADO > based data control with a programming and user interface. I'll try to install on one of my 98 machines Monday. Lamar Owen WGCR Internet Radio
