New Globe

I have the new developer's globe online. Please check your BIOs and
let me know if there's anything that needs correcting. For those
without pictures, don't be so shy. Submit a picture - if you need to
have one scanned it can be arranged.

And before I forget.. Good job on the globe, Jan!

As core members, Tom Lane and me should move up into the steering area, I think.

Did you succeed in rendering it?

I leave those decisions to Marc. :)

Yep. Did it on hub. Took (I think) 6 and a half hours.

That's it. No new developers. The globe takes too long to generate. :-)

Not as much as a problem you might think it is. The default make target is a poor quality image, rendering
aprox. 2 minutes on my 333MHz PII. So adding/removing pins can be verified/tested quickly.

Only rendering the final image in full quality is what pushes the CPU against the wall.

How much code do I have to contribute to get a marker on Sydney? :)

That's a good question. We normally give "pins" out to people who have
contributed a code over a significant period of time. For example,
Peter Eisentraut is almost ready for a pin. We would normally wait for
his feature patches to be released, and then wait a few months to see if
he is still around. We look for people who we feel are in this for the
long haul.

Yep those pop-up pictures on the globe are cool.

My initial reaction - I'm glad I've got a beard, because it looks to
be a pre-requisite for hacking on postgresql!!!

Vadim seens to have disappeared from earth, I hope you are not going to
remove his pin yet ;)

Hopefully he won't be away from postgres for the full 6 year he'll spend in
