Is there any interest in having an IRC meeting on #postgresql at some
time, to discuss any current issues, or is the mailing list sufficient.

Mailing list, IMHO, is better...it means its easier for ppl to post more
detailed responses then time generally permits in IRC.  IRC is good for
'quickies' but that's about it :(
