We are new to PostgresSQL and in the process of learning.
 
Could you please point us to a simple white paper/doc which describes the Conceptual Architecture of PostgresSQL?

I don't know what you mean by "Conceptual Architecture."

Ahh, odd question.  Have you read the fine online manual?

Read about Relational Theory, and  MVCC (ask google).


Have you read Greg's book?

http://www.2ndquadrant.com/books/

After that, read the source code.
