Can I install a PostgreSQL DB on a Novell LAN drive or must it be on a

Do you mean running postgresql on a linux or windows machine with the
$PGDATA directory located on a Novell / NFS / Samba mount, or do you
mean running postgresql ON novell?

I assume the first thing. Yes you can. Should you? Probably not, but
there are some use scenarios where it makes sense. Note that the real
question is not if you can, but if your setup can survive certain power
outage / crash scenarios.
