Thread: silly select question
Running PostgreSQL 7.2.1 on RedHat Linux 7.2
This may seem like an obviously stupid question, but
is there any other reason, besides security
issues, that the system tables (pg_shadow, for one)
does not have select access on it?
Thanks!

Most system tables *do* have select access, otherwise you couldn't see what tables, views, functions etc. existed. Now pg_shadow is special, because it contains the passwords PG uses, so only the administrator (user postgres) should be able to see that. -- Richard Huxton
