Dear,

I've had a problem lately. I've received the following message in the
kernel:
syslogd: /var/run/utmp: Too many open files in system
internet /kernel: file: table is full
Can Anybody give me a light?

The kernel contains a fixed-size table for open file structures. So
many files have been opened by various processes that it is full up.

If you say what the operating system is, we can probably tell you how to
increase the number of files that can be open simultaneously.
