Thread: Postgres 7.1.3 and new kernel
Howdy folks:
We are trying to migrate from Mandrake Linux 8.0, kernel
2.4.16 to RedHat Linux 7.2, kernel 2.4.7.
Wasn't there something that said, 'do not use these kernel
versions with Postgres' somewhere?
Thanks!

No, they should work just fine (but do apply available updates, for other reasons). -- Trond Eivind Glomsrød Red Hat, Inc.
Only kernel not to use is 2.4.15. Better kernels where from 2.4.12 upwards however i would recommend 2.4.16 and above Darren Ferguson On 28 Jan 2002, Trond Eivind [iso-8859-1] Glomsrd wrote: > "Johnson, Shaunn" <SJohnson6@bcbsm.com> writes: > > > Howdy folks: > > > > We are trying to migrate from Mandrake Linux 8.0, kernel > > 2.4.16 to RedHat Linux 7.2, kernel 2.4.7. > > > > Wasn't there something that said, 'do not use these kernel > > versions with Postgres' somewhere? > > No, they should work just fine (but do apply available updates, for > other reasons). > -- > Trond Eivind Glomsrd > Red Hat, Inc. > > ---------------------------(end of broadcast)--------------------------- > TIP 3: if posting/reading through Usenet, please send an appropriate > subscribe-nomail command to majordomo@postgresql.org so that your > message can get through to the mailing list cleanly >

The recommended kernel (which is heavily patched, tested, etc. ) is the official update kernel, 2.4.9-21 -- Trond Eivind Glomsrød Red Hat, Inc.
