Did you create a DSN for the database in question?  (under Contol
Panel / ODBC or Contol Panel / Administrative Tools / ODBC)

Was Excel installed with all optional software?  I
believe that options such as Microsoft Query need to
be installed for Excel to access databases via ODBC.
