This must be a new feature. I regularly leave psql sessions open overnight. Version 7.0.2 (yes it's old I know). I must say, if a timeout has been added, I hope it can be disabled. (We do set SO_KEEPALIVE to ensure that a lost connection will be recognized even if no data transmission is pending, but I believe the spec timeout for that is ~ 1 hour.) regards, tom lane
