pgbench

Hi all,
my company is going to buy new server. It will mainly be used as a database
server (of cause PostgreSQL).
Today I tested 2 server which are almost identical:

1.4 Athlon CPU
2 GB DDR with ECC
harddisk is an IBM Ultrastar 36LP (SCSI)
and raid system

The operating system is Linux with a 2.4.10 kernel.
The version of PostgreSQL is 7.1

From server 1 I got this results from pgbench: about 90 tps

but from the server 2 I got this: 9 tps !!!!!
(pgbench with various settings and scaling factors)

Has anybody an idea why the results differ so much?

Thanks Peter
