Out of curiosity's sake, how do you uninstall postgres (say it got majorly
screwed up or something)?  Just delete the directories and reinstall?

See if this works for you:

rm -rf /usr/local/pgsql
rm -rf /var/lib/pgsql

Don't forget the database directory if you keep it somewhere else.  If
you moved the man pages... well have fun.
