The docs or webpage you are using for the install are out of date. Cygserver is now used instead of ipc-daemon2. Hi, As Mike G said, remove ipc-daemon (all versions). Perhaps re-install cygwin-1.5.10-3 afterwards (only that package); therehave been some conflicts between executable names in cygipc and the ipc of cygwin-server. Then check that the cygserver is actually really truly running. Either you forgot to start it, or it fails to start due topermission problems. --Tim -----Original Message----- From: pgsql-cygwin-owner@postgresql.org [mailto:pgsql-cygwin-owner@postgresql.org]On Behalf Of Hussein Badakhchani Sent: donderdag 5 augustus 2004 14:54 To: pgsql-cygwin@postgresql.org Subject: [CYGWIN] initdb failing Hello My platform is: Windows 2000 sp4 Cygwin 1.5.10-3 Postgresql 7.4.3.1 As per the instructions I start cygserver in the background and then run initdb: v&p.test@DOW2K00028396 ~ $ initdb -d -D /usr/local/pgsql/data Running in debug mode. initdb: internal variables: PGDATA=/usr/local/pgsql/data datadir=/usr/share/postgresql PGPATH=/usr/bin ENCODING= ENCODINGID=0 POSTGRES_SUPERUSERNAME=v&p.test POSTGRES_BKI=/usr/share/postgresql/postgres.bki POSTGRES_DESCR=/usr/share/postgresql/postgres.description POSTGRESQL_CONF_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/postgresql.conf.sample PG_HBA_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/pg_hba.conf.sample PG_IDENT_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/pg_ident.conf.sample The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "v&p.test". Ensure that you have the following set before starting the cygserver: export CYGWIN=server That should fix the problem. I had a problem similar to yours and Daniel Secomb provided that solution and that got me up and running with the PostgreSQL db. Good luck. -SR --- Hussein Badakhchani <hussein@xensia.com> wrote: > Hello > > My platform is: > > Windows 2000 sp4 > Cygwin 1.5.10-3 > Postgresql 7.4.3.1 > > As per the instructions I start cygserver in the > background and then run > initdb: > > v&p.test@DOW2K00028396 ~ > $ initdb -d -D /usr/local/pgsql/data > Running in debug mode. > > initdb: internal variables: > PGDATA=/usr/local/pgsql/data > datadir=/usr/share/postgresql > PGPATH=/usr/bin > ENCODING= > ENCODINGID=0 > POSTGRES_SUPERUSERNAME=v&p.test > POSTGRES_BKI=/usr/share/postgresql/postgres.bki > > POSTGRES_DESCR=/usr/share/postgresql/postgres.description > > POSTGRESQL_CONF_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/postgresql.conf.sample > > PG_HBA_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/pg_hba.conf.sample > > PG_IDENT_SAMPLE=/usr/share/postgresql/pg_ident.conf.sample > The files belonging to this database system will be > owned by user "v&p.test". > This user must also own the server process. > > The database cluster will be initialized with locale > C. > > creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data... ok > creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/base... ok > creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/global... > ok > creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_xlog... > ok > creating directory /usr/local/pgsql/data/pg_clog... > ok > selecting default max_connections... Thanks Dan, Also I had to increase the SEMMNS and SEMMSL numbers in /etc/cygserver.conf.
