Does the Postgresql server work on Windows? Not just the client? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Many months ago, I tried PostgreSQL on Windows 98 so I could respond to a post on pgsql-ports. It seemed to work. So, my answer is a guarded "yes." However, Cygwin runs *much* worse on 9X and Me than it does on NT 4.0 and 2000 implying (IMO) the same for PostgreSQL. Unfortunately, I never ran the regression tests. Since, I no longer have access to a 9X or Me machine, I cannot do so now. Would you or someone else being willing to try out the regression tests and report back to the list? I recommend trying make installcheck (i.e., sequential schedule) first and then if that works, try make check (i.e., parallel schedule). I am a Windows NT/2000 man myself, but I am quite interested in getting it to work on Windows 98. I will find some time soon to set up my Windows 98 system and give it a try. >From: Jason Tishler <Jason.Tishler@dothill.com> >To: Richard Church <rfchurch@hotmail.com> >CC: pgsql-cygwin@postgresql.org >Subject: Re: [CYGWIN] Postgres server on Windows 98 >Date: Fri, 11 May 2001 14:13:03 -0400 > >Richard, > >On Thu, May 10, 2001 at 08:43:56PM -0000, Richard Church wrote: > > Does the Postgresql server work on Windows? Thank you very much for the above -- it is much appreciated. What version of PostgreSQL are you using? IIRC, the psql hang problem (especially with the parallel schedule) sounds like a problem that was fixed in 7.1. Do you get these hangs even with the serial schedule? Hello, I'm using 7.1 (I need plpgsql so am not using 7.1.1), and the problem appears on the serial schedule (the parrallel schedule also hangs, I've not had it complete the first 13 tests). I could try the serial test again tonight and keep a server debug (-d2 I was thinking) output. I hadn't really commented on it as I've had it go through an NT4 server ok (bar one random difference), and assumed it was win9x up to its usual high jinx. - Stuart > -----Original Message----- > From: Jason Tishler [SMTP:Jason.Tishler@dothill.com] > Sent: Tuesday, May 15, 2001 12:52 PM > To: Henshall, Stuart - WCP > Cc: Pgsql-Cygwin > Subject: Re: [CYGWIN] Postgres server on Windows 98 > > Stuart, > > On Tue, May 15, 2001 at 09:56:58AM +0100, Henshall, Stuart - WCP wrote: > > I've tried a few times to get regression tests to work on 98SE under > > cygwin and never managed to get all the way through.
